Studio Brief 03: Study Task 9.0

Binding Mock Up

When I was doing research about some different binding techniques, this really cool binding technique caught my eye. It is possible to bind a word in to the spine and hold the pages together. The picture I saw is the one below here.

After I discovered and have done the research this special binding technique on the internet. I decided to choose the name of the road my concept is all about Kirkstall Road. So doing the math was the next step "How many letters do I have?" and "How many space is required between the letters?" and "What is the width of the spine in total?". With this information I made some guidelines for myself for the right measurement.

The result below is readable but not the right outcome I hoped for. I had done three letters after 2,5 hours. So I decided to not do this binding technique because it was too much time taking. I was just a try out and fun to do it. So I can use this research for another project when I have to do book binding later on.
